Ad Hoc Projects 2006-07
This program began in the 2006-07 financial year, with six projects awarded funding. While four of the projects are still current, summaries of the two completed projects are provided below:
Organisation: National Rugby League
Project Name: NRL Multicultural Program
Location: Moore Park, NSW
Amount: $85 950
Project Summary:
This project aimed to build up mutual respect and understanding of cultural difference by supporting some 60 schools in Western Sydney (including schools in Penrith, Parramatta, Campbelltown and Bankstown) to organise a range of activities centred on rugby. The project's activities involved workshops for parents, sport clinics with high-profile players, Harmony Day events and 'bring a mate' days, where isolated youth were encouraged and supported to be involved in activities at local clubs. The project also produced learning materials for school students on the importance of respect, acceptance and community harmony to Rugby League and Australia.
Organisation: Australian Council of Christians and Jews
Project Name: World Conference of the International Council of Christians and Jews
Location: Kew, Vic
Amount: $40 000
Project Summary:
The project held the World Conference of the International Council of Christians and Jews in Sydney from 8 to 11 July 2007. The four day program brought together Christian, Jewish and Muslim presenters with a panel of members to discuss how the three religions can 'Heal a Broken World', and address issues of Islam phobia, anti-Semitism and challenges to interfaith reconciliation.
