The project seeks to reduce racism and prejudice faced by Somali women due to their muslim dress and in particular the hijab. Community attitudes can be changed through education, community awareness and cultural exchange. The proposal will also include the dissemination of information to other communities via local radio stations and papers. Understanding and acceptance of the Somali culture by the broad Australian community will reduce the anxiety currently experienced by Somali women.
