Project Name:

Harmony Puppet Project

Suburb:

COFFS HARBOUR

State:

New South Wales

Amount:

$38,000

Project Summary:

This project is to engage youth from diverse backgrounds (Indigenous, Sudanese and other migrants) in activities in response to stereotyping and conflict. Through a series of art workshops, targeting youth from a variety of cultural backgrounds, young people will work together to explore their experiences of discrimination. They will develop puppets and a script for a show based on themes of racism and harmony that they have identified. The young people will be supported by a range of community groups working together and the issues raised will be discussed at a public community forum. The young people will perform the puppet show at primary schools as a prompt for classroom discussion on the issues.

About the Organisation:

The primary aim of the Coffs Harbour PCYC is to assist young people to develop the qualities to be responsible citizens and leaders. It provides the local community with recreational, educational and support services.
