Project Name:

Diversity: We Are Who We Are

Suburb:

GLENORCHY (Hobart)

State:

Tasmania

Amount:

$23,761

Project Summary:

This project responds to issues of racism and discrimination which have affected community members (especially recently arrived African migrants) ability to access and engage in education and public transport services, as identified at a community forum in 2005. The project aims to minimise discrimination and racism within schools and school communities in the City of Glenorchy , with pictorial outcomes expanded into public transport services and the broader community. The program will use shared and experiential learning to develop mutual understanding between differing groups, as well as between generations. There will be presentations and interactive forums by students and members of culturally diverse groups, as well as cultural open days for students and staff. Experiential learning tasks will address issues of discrimination and racism. Stories and photographs from these activities will be used in a public transport media campaign.
