Emerging Afghani and Iraqi Muslim communities in Victoria are becoming increasingly isolated. These communities face difficulty settling in Australia , leading to two-way prejudice and attitude problems. This project targets the youth within the communities as the key to overcoming prejudice. The project's activities will involve young people attending workshops to build leadership skills, self-confidence, and overcome discrimination. They will meet role models and influential moderate Muslims to discuss perceptions of Islam and acceptance of difference. The young people will make presentations to schools and be involved in community activities. Written and artistic work expressing their reflections on their heritage and Australian identity will form the basis of an exhibition and a webpage. |
