Radio Harmony will increase the knowledge of diversity of students at Northland Secondary College and will promote harmony in the school and the wider community. Northland Secondary College , in Melbourne 's north, has a large number of Indigenous students as well as students from an increasingly diverse range of migrant backgrounds. The project will cover understanding diversity, human rights and social competency skills with a focus on shared values. Students will attend workshops with community representatives and guest speakers and will discuss race-related bullying and its effects on young people. Students from the school will interview each other and students from the East Preston Islamic College. They will go on a camp to prepare the culturally diverse radio show, to be broadcast live on community radio. Students will also make a video diary of the project and develop a poster to celebrate diversity which will be distributed in the neighbourhood. A small information pack about the project, including the radio show on CD, will be distributed to other schools and community groups. |
