Project Summary:

The project seeks to respond to stereotyping of Indigenous residents of two rural towns as being responsible for anti-social behaviour, street crime and domestic violence. The project will hold a 10-week sports competition (netball and touch football) for mixed teams of Indigenous and non-Indigenous young people from the towns of Lake Cargelligo and Condoblin. Issues of discrimination will be discussed in the preparation of the teams and building of team identity. The competition grand final will be followed by a community event.

The current population of the shire is around 7,188 and the centre of administration is in Condobolin. Approximately 13 per cent of the population of the shire is of Indigenous origin.
