Project Summary:

To address issues of discrimination affecting the recently settled African community in Newcastle , this project will create a short film documentary about their journey to Newcastle and their stories of settling in Australia . The film will then be screened in a local park on Harmony Day. The film and an accompanying workbook will be distributed to local schools. There will also be activities bringing the new African community into contact with the rest of the community through involvement in the community garden and community kitchen and the Police and Community Youth Club (PCYC), amongst others.

Mayfield Mainstreet Committee is a committee of the City of Newcastle (local government authority). The Committee is tasked with revitalising the Mayfield business district and the local community by providing a vision for the future and an achievable plan for success. The Committee also aims to enthuse, skill and resource local people.
