Project Summary:

Young African refugees can experience difficulties when trying to engage fully into Australian society.  Quite often they arrive with little or no family support and, due to the horrendous circumstances that they have been through, many of them lack trust in authority figures such as the police. Often they have difficulties in building relationships and meeting new people. 

The project proposes two youth camps that will give young African participants, an opportunity to share their experiences and gain a better understanding of the role of Australian law and police in a supportive environment. Apart from recreational type activities, the camps will include activities to address issues such as lack of knowledge regarding Australian laws, personal safety concerns, preventing victimisation and juvenile justice.
