Organisation:

Lead On Australia

Project Name:

"Walk In My Shoes" (WIMS)

Suburb:

BENDIGO

State:

Victoria

Amount:

$46,440

Project Summary:

This project covers three areas of rural Victoria - Swan Hill, Bendigo and Echuca. These areas have received skilled migrants, refugees and international students in recent years.  In addition there are significant Koori populations.

The increased demographics in cultural diversity over a relatively short period is challenging some segments of the community.  This project will engage young people from diverse cultural backgrounds including "typical Aussie youth" and Indigenous in producing a book, posters, pamphlets, CD and a website focussing on diversity and Australian values in regional communities.  The young people will receive training in presentation and peer mentoring before developing and making presentations to their peers in local secondary colleges.  The content of the book will also appear in a local newspaper over 12 months.
