There is often a lack of understanding in the general community about the conflicts and traumas that have led people, especially refugees, to settle in Australia. It is also challenging for young people from the refugee population to learn about Australian values and to attempt to reconcile their parents' value systems with that of the Australian mainstream. The students will participate in joint workshops in four local schools. These workshops will be filmed. The school children will be asked to develop a school assembly program. The project will develop a DVD and teaching manual that can be accessed by schools. |
