| Project Summary: |
The Multicultural Youth South Australia's (MYSA) current research into newly arrived refugee young people and public space has shown that acceptance and understanding are issues for young people, the community, and service providers. This project will be a partnership between MYSA and the Shopfront Youth Health Service. The young men at risk, particularly African young men, will be identified by schools, community groups, providers and police. The project will deliver life skills development workshops and will also provide training and support to sector and service providers. This will include the production of a training manual that will be suitable for national distribution to help community and government service delivery organisations to communicate and better understand the issues, barriers and strategies to work effectively with this client group. Positive media coverage will be generated so as to educate the community about the issues facing overseas born young people in Australia. |
