Living in Harmony Community Projects 2007

TAS

Organisation: Hobart Police & Community Youth Club Inc
Project Name: Hands Across Hobart
Suburb: Hobart
State: Tasmania
Amount: $50,000
Project Summary: Many of the Sudanese and North African refugee families settling in Tasmania feel alienated because of issues associated with: language, culture, family, the cost of accessing mainstream activities, and employment problems.

This project will encourage members of these communities to actively participate in a range of sporting and cultural projects as well as provide increased opportunities for paid work experience in Hobart PCYC programs. The PCYC will reach out to these new under resourced communities via its 'Mobile Activity Centre'.

Increased understanding of Australian values and a reduction of disharmony will be other outcomes due to increased community engagement.
