| Amount: | $18,315 |
| Project Summary: | Tasmania is receiving migrant and refugee families from Africa. Many of these families have been highly traumatised and are struggling with anxieties related to these traumas. Some of these families have women who do not have English skills, others have never had a job or education, and many have only a narrow access to the wider community due to cultural and religious limitations. The first stage of this project will facilitate a meeting of a group of young women volunteers from Hobart and a similar number of women from African countries and provide activities so they can learn about each other, personally and culturally. The second stage will be to incorporate educative and informative exchanges of both Australian and African cultural values and the opportunities and responsibilities of all Australians including women. This will involve humanitarian entrant women who are active community members as well as other notable women, to share their story. |
