The Essendon Football Club aims to promote Australian values and create opportunities for people to actively participate in the Australian way of life through AFL football. The project will conduct activities in 20 primary and secondary schools in Melbourne's north western region, reaching some 2000 students. Schools will also be involved in an open day at the football club for Harmony Day. In May 2008, a "Walk in Harmony" event will bring the community together for a full day of cultural and sporting activities, culminating in a symbolic walk from the Flemington Community Centre to the Telstra Dome and themed activities at an Essendon home game. The project will be promoted widely and an on line resource for students will be developed. |
