Summaries of the Partnership projects are provided below:

Project Name: Australians Together in Values

Project Summary: This project brings role models from the Christian, Jewish and Muslim faiths and the Indigenous community together to discuss Australian values with students; including mutual respect, understanding, acceptance and a sense of belonging for everyone.

Project Name: Online Toolkit for Local Government
Year Commenced: 2007
Amount: $119 740
Project Summary: This project will distribute free resources to local councils. The partnership is developing a website that will make available social cohesion project strategies and research. These resources will assist local councils to develop projects to address understanding, respect and community cohesion issues identified in the use of shared spaces (i.e. parks, swimming pools, shopping precincts etc.)

Project Name: Project Abraham: Reaching out to Country
Year Commenced: 2007
Amount: $174 220
Project Summary: This projects main objective is to develop respect and explore commonalities between the three Abrahamic Faiths – Judaism, Christianity and Islam. This is achieved through a travelling exhibition open to the Australian community and schools.

Project Name: Reporting Diversity and Integration

Project Summary: This project will raise journalism industry and public awareness of fair and appropriate reporting on integration issues, through public workshops, journalism curriculum materials and professional development materials for journalists.

 

Organisation: Surf Life Saving Australia
Project Name: On the Same Wave
Year Commenced: 2006
Amount: $600 000
Project Summary: This project is jointly delivered with the Sutherland Shire Council and involves a community engagement strategy promoting the importance of mutual respect among all beach users. The project will comprise a number of pilots in Sydney and will be implemented nationally.

Project Name: On the Same Wave
Year Commenced: 2006
Amount: $260 000
Project Summary: This project is jointly delivered with Surf Life Saving Australia and aims to provide support to young Australians of all backgrounds, particularly young Australians of Middle Eastern background, to engage in appropriate beach usage and to promote the importance of mutual respect among all users of the beach and public spaces within Sutherland Shire.

Project Name: CricKids Playing in Harmony
Year Commenced: 2006
Amount: $190 000
Project Summary: The purpose of this project is to promote the principles of respect, justice, equality, fair play and friendship through the game of cricket and to introduce all Australian schools to the game.

 

Organisation: Australian Football League
Project Name: AFL living in harmony
Year Commenced: 2007
Amount: $150 000
Project Summary:

The project seeks to address issues and barriers relating to inclusion and participation in the game and focussing on: new and emerging communities and their leadership; isolated groups and individuals; schools and education institutions; football clubs; and Indigenous Australia.

The ‘AFL You Can Kick Goals ’ education package, a component of the partnership project, will engage teachers and school children and promote Australian values, leadership, mentoring and team orientated behaviours.

There will also be a National Seminar Series that will include highlighting the important role Australian football plays in building respect and social cohesion through participation and inclusion.

 

Organisation: Special Broadcasting Services - Radio
Project Name: Peacesong tapestries
Year Commenced: 2007
Amount: $80 000
Project Summary: The project has two main elements consisting of an interactive and mobile ‘studio’ where young Australians can create music, and a weekly radio program where the compositions are broadcast.  SBS has commissioned Music House Pty Ltd to undertake the professional collation and production of the compositions.  The program will be promoted nationally on SBS Radios’ sixty-eight language programs and the SBS website.  The project intends to hold a national Harmony Day event in 2008 involving the SBS Youth Orchestra presenting the musical compositions arising out of the project.

 

Organisation: Australian Red Cross
Project Name: Red connections
Year Commenced: 2007
Amount: $132 000
Project Summary: The project will work in partnership with the department, the education sector and community groups to identify key target locations on which to focus the project. A Project Tool Kit and On‑Line Resource will be designed for primary and secondary school students to assist them to implement youth led and managed projects.  The proposed project will be piloted in Western Australia, then rolled out nationally.  It anticipates targeting 65 Western Australian schools and a total of 668 schools nationally.  The funding is for the WA pilot project to be conducted in Semester 1, 2008.
